On Tuesday, June 11, Sunna Group's Henja solar park, Sweden's first large-scale solar park on forest land, located outside Gislaved in Jönköping County, was inaugurated. The opening ceremony marks an important milestone in renewable energy in Sweden and the interest from the local community was strong.
Henja Solar Park, which has been in operation since March 2024, is Sweden’s seventh largest solar park and the first of its kind to be built on forest land. Yesterday, the park was inaugurated with an open event and more than 100 people came to the inauguration, mostly locals. During the opening, visitors were offered coffee, a Q&A session, panel discussions and a tour of the solar park.
– We are extremely proud of the Henja solar park and I am grateful for how many people came to celebrate with us. The interest in the opening was greater than we had dared to hope for and we got to answer many questions. The visitors were very curious and positive about the solar park, which is of course extra fun, says Marcus Qviberg, CEO of Sunna Group.
The Henja solar park was developed by Sunna Group in partnership with Aneo, a Nordic renewable energy group. The project has been completed in record time, just two years from start to commissioning, thanks to efficient processes and strong partnerships.
– We are delighted to have reached the milestone of hosting the opening ceremony for our first solar park after it was commissioned in record time. I am particularly proud of our team and close cooperation with Aneo, and also send a big thank you to the landowner,” says Marcus Qviberg
A unique aspect of Henja Solar Park is its design, which allows both animals and the outdoors to move freely within and through the area, without enclosures. This makes the park a model of how technology and nature can work together.
With an installed capacity of 15.5 megawatts (MWp) and an estimated annual production of 15 gigawatt-hours (GWh), equivalent to the annual household electricity consumption of over 3,000 homes, Henja Solar Park will contribute significantly to Sweden’s green energy goals.
