Signed agreement together with Bergvik Skog Öst for large-scale solar power establishment

Bergvik Skog Öst and Sunna Group have signed an agreement on cooperation for the establishment of large-scale solar power in Uppsala County.

The project concerns the establishment of an area of about 100 hectares with an installed capacity of up to 50 MW. The land was previously covered with forest that was cleared a few years ago. The site has good conditions in terms of location between connection, production and consumption. The municipality has a long history of power generation and is now moving towards renewable energy and increasing the amount of solar energy in the Swedish energy mix.

It is important for us to be able to contribute to the sustainable development of society in more than one way. Therefore, we see this first solar power project on our land as an exciting venture and broadening of our land use and sustainability work, says Sofia Berg, CEO of Bergvik Skog Öst.

Bergvik Skog Öst’s land is managed under FSC and PEFC certification by the forest manager BillerudKorsnäs, which holds the certificates. Bergvik Skog Öst has agreed with Sunna that the FSC requirements for wind power installation will also be followed for this solar power installation. This means, among other things, the possibility of early dialogue for stakeholders, requirements for the design and monitoring of the establishment process, and consideration of natural and social values.

We are proud of this cooperation and look forward to a long-term relationship. Sunna’s ambition is to increase the amount of solar in Sweden’s energy mix. This project is a big step forward in our goal to have 500 MW of solar installed by 2025, says Marcus Qviberg, CEO of Sunna Group.

The next step is to initiate the permit process with the County Administrative Board and the dialogue with the grid owner for the connection of the park.
