The 40-hectare facility is located southwest of Falköping, and with its 47,808 solar panels, it will generate approximately 31 gigawatt-hours of electricity per year, equivalent to the annual household electricity consumption of 6,200 single-family homes.
The area where the facility is located consists primarily of low-productivity agricultural land used for grass cultivation, with a portion of the area previously used as pasture. The entire facility site is situated on old, drained marshland that is partly rocky, where growing conditions are not considered favorable and yields have been low.
The Skånum solar park has been established on a low-productivity agricultural area with poor growing conditions, primarily due to high soil moisture. Now that the area is being put to use for electricity production, the project demonstrates how solar power can add new value to land areas while contributing to local value creation and increased access to renewable energy. The solar park is designed to serve as grazing land for sheep and is built without high surrounding fences, allowing for free movement.
The solar park was developed by Sunna Group and built in close collaboration with the Norwegian company Aneo, which owns the facility. We at Sunna have been responsible for project management during construction and will also manage the facility once it is operational. The construction itself was carried out by EnergiEngagemang, now Alstra Energy.
